Master of Science in Telecommunications Engineering
The Master of Science in Telecommunication Engineering is a two-year programme offered at the Leonardo Campus of the Politecnico di Milano.
A telecommunication engineer has solid methodological foundations that can be applied both in the traditional areas of telecommunications (communication devices and systems, telecommunication and Internet networks, multimedia signal processing, optical, radio, and satellite transmission technologies) and in less conventional, often interdisciplinary fields (Internet of Things, molecular communications, remote sensing).
Interdisciplinarity is fostered through a study plan that includes a considerable number of courses from related disciplines (Computer Science, Electronics, Physics, Mathematics). Students therefore have the opportunity to design their own study plan according to their aspirations and aptitudes.
Alternatively, the programme offers predefined study tracks, allowing students to specialize in one of the main areas of telecommunications. The available tracks are:
NETWORKS DATA COMMUNICATIONS: This track focuses on communication systems and information transmission techniques over various transmission media (optical, radio, and satellite communications).
COMMUNICATION NETWORKS AND INTERNET: This track focuses on the design of communication networks, i.e. complex systems where information must be transferred across heterogeneous networks of devices, such as optical networks, cellular networks, the Internet, and its evolutions (Internet of Things).
SIGNALS AND DATA ANALYSIS: This track focuses on the processing and analysis of heterogeneous signals, including multimedia signals (audio, video, images), with applications not only in telecommunications but also in remote sensing.
MICROWAVES AND PHOTONICS: This track focuses on the design, implementation, and performance evaluation of devices for long-distance information transfer, including photonic and radiofrequency devices.
INTERNET ENGINEERING: This track focuses on Internet network architectures and the services they enable. The study plan is designed in synergy with the corresponding track offered in the Master’s Degree Programme in Computer Engineering.
